Melanoma Survivor Story
Dr. Steve Drogin, melanoma survivor 2009
"I have been a meticulous caring physician for 40 years and patients have expressed their appreciation for my care and advice.
Now that I am a patient of Dr Rosio’s I can more fully appreciate the good feeling to be under the care of a conscientious, extremely knowledgeable and caring doctor.
Dr Rosio discovered and treated a number of Basal Cell Carcinomas, but also one that appeared more suspicious to him. Neither my own internist nor myself had noticed any suspicious lesions. In fact, biopsy revealed melanoma fortunately quite early and shallow and it’s treatment rapidly, expertly, and definitively followed. No doubt, my successful and uncomplicated outcome was largely due to Dr Rosio’s early recognition and accurate diagnosis.
My experience confirmed two prior beliefs that I had held for forty years. The first, in the words of the "MasterCard" advertisement, is that having a caring, knowledgeable, careful physician is "priceless". The second is that while I was an expert internist, I was not a dermatologist, and I insisted that my patients see a dermatologist for all but the most obvious skin lesions and for their routine cancer screening
I fully intend to see Dr Rosio routinely for my future skin checks."

Melanoma Survivor Story. How My Skin Check & Dermatologist Saved My Life.
I had an appointment with Dr. Rosio to check my nose, because he had reconstructed it a number of months before. He said, "Nancy, we need to check the rest of your skin too, including your feet." I said, 'Come on Dr. Rosio, you don't need to do that. It's Winter, I'm in my snow boots and I don't go out in the sun much anymore. It can wait until next time.'
But Dr. Rosio persisted, "Are you sure? Could there be anything, even on the bottom of your feet?" I said, 'Not really,' but apparently not strongly enough for Dr. Rosio. He said, "Let's do it now, you're already here." Guess what! He found a life-threatening Melanoma Skin Cancer on the bottom of my foot! Thank goodness for Dr. Rosio's persistence. He removed it just in time and found my chances were greater than ninety percent that my melanoma skin cancer will not take my life. I also learned a lot from Dr. Rosio during my check-ups. "Click here for Dr. Rosio's life saving tools and tips and facts vs. myths."
Dr. Rosio comments: Nancy learned three myths and two life saving tools on what I like to call her re-birthday.
First myth: "I don’t go out in the sun any more, so I don't need a skin check."
Truth: Your lifetime risk for melanoma is highly related to your prior sun exposure, especially childhood and teen years, with often a twenty year lag time. More sun is additive, and your risk is lifetime. Your skin never forgets! See information on my high school and elementary school education programs, and school sunshade grants. Protection now saves lives later!
Myth two: It's only where the sun shines that you need to check.
Truth: The majority of Melanoma skin cancers affect the Covered Areas of the body, including the soles of the feet and between your toes. Therefore, get the total skin check with your dermatologist.
Myth three: you would always notice a problem if it was there.
Truth: We tend to overlook gradual changes and growths in difficult to see areas, such as the back and bottom of the foot.
Tools for life: I gave Nancy a reminder check-list and skin check recognition guide for her moles and any spots. You can make these tools available to your friends and family. Remember, Skin Cancer Takes Friends (and Family). Your action and example can save lives. Request your free tools today. And spread the good word to friends and family.
Melanoma Survivor Story
Dorothy, melanoma survivor 2008
"I'm so glad that I saw Dr Rosio. He educated me on the importance of all of the small skin cancers, not just the large one. Other doctors were not concerned about the brown spots I had. See a Dermatologist. If you see a doctor and do not feel comfortable, seek a second opinion; your life could depend on it! I know that I will come back and see Dr Rosio. He is thorough, has a great follow up plan, and also a great reputation!"
