Men and Boys need virus protection too, not just females

The Gardasil vaccine (Merck)—initially approved for use in women and girls prevents four types of wart virus infection, or HPV, including two types causing 75 percent of all cervical cancers. Although penile cancer in un canthis is an extra measure of protection of all males and their partners from carrying a chronic infection and spreading it. The rates are just so high on college campuses and young people in general. We just received approval for prevention of HPV in men and boys last year. So now I offer all my patients education about prevention and protection for themselves and their sons as well as daughters, says Dr. Rosio. Gardisil was 89 percent effective against HPV-6 and HPV-11 related genital warts infections in tests in men.
