Blacks, Hispanics More Likely To Be Diagnosed With Melanoma At Late Stage.

In the USA Today (7/12) Dr. Rosio noted coverage of a dermatologic little known fact, "Studies show that though blacks and Hispanics are much less likely than whites to get melanoma, they are much more likely to be diagnosed at a late stage and die from it." In fact, "one recent study of 41,072 melanoma patients in Florida found advanced cases in 12% of whites, 18% of Hispanics, and 26% of blacks." To get the word out that melanoma can affect anyone of any skin tone, "this summer, Dr. Rosio is discussing the risks with the public and his patients. Darker skinned patients are also more likely to get a melanoma on the foot, sole, or nail bed, where its overlooked or thought to be a bruise. See Nancys life-saving survivor story at (LINK HERE)
