
Timothy J. Rosio, M.D., was just announced a Physician of the Year by Congressman Tom Reynolds and the House Majority Leader, and is receiving the following three awards: Physician of the Year Award, Pioneer of Healthcare Award, and the Ronald Reagan Memorial Gold Medal Award. Dr. Rosio was invited to dinner with President Bush and members of Congress to receive his awards.
Congressman Reynolds acknowledged Rosio "As a prominent physician in California and a key member of our Physicians' Advisory Board, we proudly recognize you as a 2004 Physician of the Year Award Winner from California. Because of your unyielding support of ideals...outstanding leadership...you were the ideal candidate to receive this award. You shared your insight and expertise...and played an integral role on our Physicians' Advisory Board."
Dr. Rosio has served his country, state, community, patients, and fellow physicians in far ranging ways, including the following:
- Provides charitable surgery on underprivileged adults and children in the U.S. & abroad.
- He created the "Heal One Wound" Foundation H.O.W. assisting needy children & adults, and participates in the SCORE program of the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery.
- Taught Asian physicians and performed surgery on scarred children in Indonesia.
- Provided skin care and sunscreen to our troops in the Middle East during Desert Storm.
- Is Honorary Chairman from California and serves on the Health Care Liability Reform Committee to ensure communities will have access to the physicians they need.
- Donated his time and energies freely serving as the Dermatology Bio-Terrorism expert for Sacramento, El Dorado, and Placer Counties. He enabled his offices to be used as referral sites and phone contact centers for suspected cases, and advised health departments, presented lectures to hospital medical and administrative staffs, and helped produce an informative educational videotape.
- Conducted free skin cancer screenings and health fairs for early detection and education for public groups, providing expertise, literature, and sun screen samples.
- Educates high school health teachers and taught 28 student health classes over the last year about healthy skin, prevention and recognition of viral, fungal and bacterial infections including hepatitis, dangers of piercing and tattoos, scarring acne, and skin cancer.
- Serves as a Scout leader and counselor including training scouts in First Aid, Safe Cycling, and Rock Climbing.
- Visited nursing homes to diagnose and treat skin illness, and provided expertise and information on Seniors' Radio programs.
- Raised funds, donated generously and volunteered his time to the cause of breast cancer, and particularly for a needs based scholarship fund to aid children whose family educational fund resources were depleted by breast cancer.
- Donated his services and time participating in fundraising for a dismembered Sacramento region CHP officer and his family.
- Provided sun protection for Hydrogen Fuel Cell cars summer demonstration trip and public education project from Sacramento through the central California valley.
- Protected and educated children and families with his "Healthy You at the Zoo" program, and Kids Healthy Skin Coloring Pages.
