Dr. Tim Rosio points out that “blackheads” and “white’heads” also known as "comedonal post-adolescent acne (CPAA) is the most prevalent form of acne in adult women…” as published July 8 in the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology. This means that ‘white or black heads’ predominate, though many women may have mixtures of inflamed ‘red bumps’, ‘cysts’, and deeper ‘nodules and scars’. After conducting a study of 226 women between the ages of 25 and 50 years who presented with acne, researchers found that "192 (85.0%) patients were classified as having CPAA and 34 (15.0%) as having PPAA," with "significantly more smokers among the CPAA than the PPAA group."
